Expertise

An accomplished and knowledgeable advisor, Uribe is a recognized expert in his field, having previously spent over 25 years at leading auction houses Sotheby’s and Phillips as Director and then Vice-Chairman in the Latin American, Contemporary, and Impressionist and Modern Art departments. Prior to Sotheby’s, he served as Director at Mary-Anne Martin/Fine Art, a gallery specializing in Modern Latin American Art, where he was responsible for expanding the gallery’s Latin American client base. He was also appointed to the Advisory Board of the Mexican Cultural Institute of the Consul General of Mexico in New York in 1991 and has remained an active and sought-after promoter of Latin American culture, frequently invited to speak by many of the art world’s most prestigious institutions.

Uribe has a proven track record of locating and sourcing major works of art. One of many examples is having driven growth of consigned property through Los Angeles from $14 million to over $90 million in just four years as Director of West Coast Operations for Sotheby’s.

Uribe Fine Art aims to meet each client’s specific needs while maximizing the value of the artwork through the many available options for sale. With an in-depth understanding of all market conditions gleaned from years of experience, Uribe will help navigate the process of selling privately or at auction for the best possible result. Recently, Uribe brokered the private sale of Diego Rivera’s magnum opus Baile en Tehuantepec for $15,750,000, the current world record price for any Latin American work of art, to the MALBA Museum in Buenos Aires. During his tenure as Director and Vice Chairman of the Impressionist and Modern Art department at Sotheby’s, Uribe and his colleagues were responsible for many record-breaking results, including Pablo Picasso’s Garçon à la pipe, the first painting to achieve over $100 million; Edvard Munch’s The Scream, the first drawing to fetch over $100 million. Most recently, Uribe was responsible for the consignment and sale of Claude Monet’s Meulles, the only Impressionist painting to sell for over $100 million at auction.
